HS2 – High Speed Rail Link

HS2 – The High Speed rail linking London to Birmingham

Change4Chalfont is organising a public meeting to bring the debate about the proposed high speed rail link (HS2) to Chalfont St Peter. Taking place on Saturday 2 April, there will be speakers from HS2ActionAlliance and the Chiltern Society, together with displays showing both the planned route of the new line and the key arguments in favour and against.  Robin Summerell of Change4Chalfont said, ‘Other communities along the Misbourne Valley are very worried about HS2, but generally, people in Chalfont St Peter don’t seem too concerned. However, even though the route near Chalfont St Peter goes underground, there will be massive engineering works to dig out and build the tunnel which will be very disruptive to all of us.’

Tony Abbott of Change4Chalfont added, ‘Since the Government consultation is now under way, we think that it is important that everyone in Chalfont St Peter is as well-informed as possible. It’s a major project that will affect this area for years whilst it is being built, and will change the countryside for ever, so local people should have the opportunity to find out in detail what it will mean to us’.

The meeting starts at 10am at Chalfont St Peter (C of E) School, Church Lane, Chalfont St Peter.

Thank you for organising yesterday’s meeting in Chalfont. It was so well organised and professional, congratulations. Unfortunately my daughter and father missed it. Is there to be another such event?

Hi, Simon – thanks for your comments. We are considering a second meeting if we felt the interest was there amongst people who couldn’t make it yesterday – but we would be more than happy for anyone else to go ahead and organise one and could hand over all the speaker contact info!

    Best wishes,
